Database

Database

Today’s technology facilitates greater predictive power.  With digitized environmental and site data, developing hypotheses and elucidating patterns is fast and cost efficient.  The digitized database presents opportunities for finer variable discrimination.  For example, prehistoric preference for ecotonal location can be tested to develop a logical series of questions about site location and resource depletion, which can be simulated by computer response.

PTA maintains an accurate database for each project and includes information on all collected artifacts.  The database includes the following details on all artifacts as applicable:

  • Provenience
  • Depth
  • Artifact Type
  • Material
  • Functional Group
  • Use
  • Artifact Detail
  • Functional Category
  • Weight
  • Maker’s Marks and Brands
  • Manufacturing Dates
  • Measurements
  • Number of Artifacts Collected
